Luna Wool Rug from Y'abal Guatemala

From the moment we walked into Y'abal's doors, located in the charming city of Xela (pronounced Shay-La), we fell deeply in love with the beauty and quality of their goods. We knew we had to bring these enchanting textiles to PennyLark.

These handcrafted wool rugs are made with wool sourced from local, family-farmed sheep. The white, gray, and black colors are the sheep's natural wool tones. The accent colors are achieved by using plants and minerals such as elderberry fruit, tree bark, plant leaves, cochineal insects, and indigo. The wool is sheared, washed, carded, and spun by hand. It's then woven on the artisanal foot-loom by a family run workshop in Momostenango.

When you buy a Y'abal hand-woven product you not only contribute directly to the economic self-sufficiency of the women Y'abal works with, but you are also supporting the fair trade workshops and social programs implemented in their communities! With your purchase you are increasing the opportunities and quality of life for women in the Western Highlands of Guatemala.

About Y'abal
Yabal Guatemala is a Fair Trade organization focusing on supporting indigenous women’s weaving cooperatives in Guatemala and providing them with the opportunity to sell their hand-woven products through local and international markets. They seek to increase the opportunities and quality of life for women in the Western Highlands of Guatemala while preserving the traditional art of back-strap weaving. By mixing indigenous and sophisticated, contemporary designs, Yabal creates modern sustainable fashion products that maintain centuries-old traditions, cultural symbols and weaving techniques.

STORY

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD

I recently discovered this amazing website and ordered necklaces for my daughters. I received them in 2 days! Not only did they arrive quickly, they were carefully packed and beautifully wrapped. I wanted to peek so bad but resisted because I wouldn’t be able to duplicate the wrapping. This website empowers, features and recognizes women artists and honors their work.
They cared so much they asked for feedback and responded when I provided it. This will definitely be one of my go to sites for gift giving.

We all need that special thing for our ourselves/lover/sister/friend.

The sweet thing is that the research is done on where to intentionally drop our cash! I simply love the products, stories behind who creates the products and the fact that I can depend on the best curated collections.

This all makes Pennylark Finery my go-to place - and why I’m getting ready to put order number four out the door. Thank you, PennyLark Finery!
