Maya Crossbody Purse by Y'abal Guatemala

From the moment we walked into Y'abal's doors, located in the charming city of Xela (pronounced Shay-La), we fell deeply in love with the beauty and quality of their goods. We knew we had to bring these enchanting purses to PennyLark.

The Maya Crossbody purse features Mayan brocade designs traditional to the communities of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan in the Western highlands of Guatemala. While all purses feature geometric abstract designs, each brocade design is slightly different and varied, depending on the artistic inspiration of its weaver. Therefore each purse is unique! The thread colors are dyed by hand, using plant and mineral dyes and local materials that are grown in the weaving communities. The light blue threads are from recycled denim jean fibers that have been repurposed from factory waste from Guatemala City.

When you buy a Y'abal hand-woven product you not only contribute directly to the economic self-sufficiency of the women Y'abal works with, but you are also supporting the fair trade workshops and social programs implemented in their communities! With your purchase you are increasing the opportunities and quality of life for women in the Western Highlands of Guatemala.

STORY

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD

I recently discovered this amazing website and ordered necklaces for my daughters. I received them in 2 days! Not only did they arrive quickly, they were carefully packed and beautifully wrapped. I wanted to peek so bad but resisted because I wouldn’t be able to duplicate the wrapping. This website empowers, features and recognizes women artists and honors their work.
They cared so much they asked for feedback and responded when I provided it. This will definitely be one of my go to sites for gift giving.

We all need that special thing for our ourselves/lover/sister/friend.

The sweet thing is that the research is done on where to intentionally drop our cash! I simply love the products, stories behind who creates the products and the fact that I can depend on the best curated collections.

This all makes Pennylark Finery my go-to place - and why I’m getting ready to put order number four out the door. Thank you, PennyLark Finery!
